MARY5 LINCOLN or Linkon (Thos.4, Thos.3, John2, Robert Jr.1), 1642-1716,wife of 13) Richard4 Stevens of Taunton, Mass. was a daughter of Thomas Lincoln "themiller", 1600-1683. He was called "the miller" to identify him from threeother men with the same name. He had immigrated, along with five otherLincoln men from Norfolk, England in 1636 to Hingham, Mass., and in 1652he removed to Taunton, Mass. Of these six men, Thos. "the miller" andthree brothers were related and probably all of them and it is generallyagreed President Lincoln was descended from one of them, but there has been much dispute as to the exact links. Some genealogistshave claimed the President was descended from Mary's father Thomas "themiller", b. 1600; but the more generally accepted line is the one givenherein in Chapter III, page 26, which I believe makes Thomas "the Miller"a second cousin to the alleged ancestor of the President, in the samegeneration. Anyway, all descendants of 13) Richard and Mary Stevens areproved to be related to a man, who was, perhaps, the nations most famouspresident, judging by the over 2,000 volumes of Lincoln lore in librariesabout him. It is interesting to note in the alleged ancestry of the president (L. &.H.) that the sister of his ancestor Richard Lincoln in Hingham, England,was named Kathrine, and she -m- before 1570 a man named "Brooke" (firstname not given), so perhaps this Kathrine Brooke, or Broke had a daughterKathrine Broke who -m- Anthony1 Stephens ca. 1582. Another novelty in regard to this Richard Lincoln in England was that hiswife's sister -m- John Kett, whose 1st cousin Francis Kett, "Doctor ofPhysick" ca. 1580 was burned at the stake in Norwich castle ditch on 14Jan. 1588/9 for heresy, and his great uncle William Kett, als. Knight ofWymondham, was hanged for treason in 1549. There we have it! Thecompilers of other family histories hide such facts but ours should bedifferent. I always thought if we searched long enough, we could find arelative who had been hanged. But alas, the line of the descendants of13) Richard and Mary Lincoln goes through Richard Lincoln's brother John,so no relation to Richard Lincoln's wife or socalled traitor. The most widely accepted line for President Lincoln in America: Samuel,b. ca. 1619 of Hingham, Mass.; Mordecai, Mordecai Jr., John, Abraham,Thomas, President A. Lincoln. The link between John and Mordecai is weakfor it is uncertain whether the John in Virginia was the son of Mordecaior a great grandson of Thomas, "the miller." Thomas5 Lincoln or Linkon "the miller" (Thos.4, John3, Robt. Jr.2)1600-1683, of Taunton, Mass., -m- 1st (???)? in England; -m- 2nd in Mass.Elizabeth Harvey in 1665. He had been a miller but owned and operated aniron works in Taunton. Issue, all by his 1st wife: 1. Thomas6 Jr. Lincoln, b. ca. 1628 in England -m- Mary Austin (dau. ofJonah) and settled at Taunton. 2. John6 Lincoln, b. ca. 1633 (d. 1719) -m- in 1664 Edith Macomber ofMarshfield, Mass. 3. Samuel6 Lincoln, b. ca. 1637 -m- Cathrine (???). 4. Sarah6 Lincoln -m- Joe Willis. 5. Mary6 Lincoln, b. Oct. 6, 1642 (d. 1716) - (Hist. of Hingham) -m- in1666/7 Richard4 Stevens of Taunton, Mass.
