[Josh Aslinger.FTW] Thomas Palmer Sr. served as a Private with the Virginia troops during the Revolutionary War. He was present at Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown,VA. He stood near General George Washington when Cornwallis' sword waspresented to the colonial leader. He knew General Lafayette and otherRevolutionary generals. After the war, he married Emily and migrated to Bedford County, Virginia,and then to Cocke and Greene counties in Tennessee. In 1835, the familymigrated to northern Hamilton County, Tennessee. He applied for aRevolutionary War pension in November 1832 and began receiving it whileliving in Cocke County. He received a land grant for his war service.His property was along Little Grasshopper Creek and included a spring.When he moved to Hamilton County, his pension and other mail went toGeorgetown, TN--the nearest post office.
