Arthur wrote a letter March 11, 1912 to his cousin (thought to be Bertha W. Dettbarn). His father was ill at the time. He mentions a photo "...and Father was pleased to see his Sister once more..." I'm sure this was Caroline.
He was married on Feb 8, 1910. On Jan 27, 1911 a daughter was born, but his wife died on May 5, 1911 (complications from childbirth?). He continued the family farm and dairy business in Mayer, MN. He mentions his mother and father as well as his brothers and sisters. He also mentions some Dettbarns living near Chaska, MN and that he was going to check to see if they were related to Theodor (Dettbarn).
He calls his farm "...the home farm...". He also mentioned taking a civil service examination to be a mail clerk on the train, but had to stay home when his brother Paul left. He also said that he had listed the farm for sale. On a visit to Mayer in May of 1990, I was unable to find any Tressmans in the area other than the grave of Martha, Arthur's wife in the Lutheran Cemetery.
I also visited Chaska and was unable to locate any Dettbarns in the area.
There were several Dettborns in one of the cemeteries and these were probably the individuals that Arthur mentioned. It does not appear that they had any connection with Theodor Dettbarn.
He also mentions a 16 year old hired hand. In the 1910 census, there is listed a Hermann Rolf, age 14 as a hired hand on the farm.
From a letter received in April of 1993 from Gary Daniel, a grandson, Arthur went to Custer, MT, not far from Billings and established a homestead north of Custer on Edwards Creek. This would have been about 1912. He died 10 years later.
