TOD: OBIT of August W(e)gner - Rib Lake Paper - papers of Eunica Pritzl August A Wegner was born Dec 21, 1876 at Beaver Dam, Wis., and died in Rib Lake August 28, 1930 at 7 a.m. of heart failure, after an illness lasting since his operation for rupture two years ago. He was in St Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield during the months of March and April, this year. On Nov. 28, 1906, he married Miss Maude Holden of Neenah at Oshkosh, Wis., and they started housekeeping at Fond Du Lac where he lived. Two children were born to them, Eunica, who is now a student nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, and Melba, who is at home. Besides these two children and his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Fred Seehaefer of Marshfield and Mrs. Arthur Koch of Milwaukee, and one brother Arnold Wegner of Los Angeles, California. Mr. Wegner and family have lived in Rib Lake 22 years and he conducted a barber shop here most of this time. He was a member of the village board of trustees for many years and was serving the village in that capacity at the time of his death. Services were held at the Church of Christ at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30. Rev. Samuelson, pastor of the Baptist church of Ogema. preached a splendid sermon. The church was packed with friends who came to pay their last respects to the deceased, who was held in high esteem in the community. President William Banks and Trustees A. H. Brush, W. E. Freiberg, William Radtke, George Dewsz and Victor Gustafson were pallbearers. The floral tributes were profuse and most beautiful. The body was conveyed to his sister's home in Marshfield after the service and he was buried at Marshfield the following day (Sunday) at 2 o'clock. The funeral at Marshfield had a very large attendance. We can only remind the mourners that he is not dead, he is only asleep, resting after a long and well spent life here; he cannot and would not, if he could, return to us; we can, if we will, go to him. Behind the storm clouds always lurks the rainbow and when the storm is past it weeps upon the flowers of the land and the pearls of the sea. Darkness precedes the dawning and out of the blackness of night comes the sunshine and joy of the day.
August A. Wagner (1876-1930) - notes by Melba Wagner 2/3/88 Son of Ernest Wagner & Wilhemina (Minny) Bentner. Dodge Co. Wisc. has no record of his birth in Beaver Dam. He was living there at the time of the 1880 Census. (age 3). The Dodge County Courthouse records were destroyed by fire in 1877!. Before he was married he had a baby boy by a women who owned a millinery shop in Fond Du Lac, Wisc. Augusts' wife Maude wanted to adopt the boy after they were married but the women did not want to give the boy up. His sister Edith married a Seehaefer and they lived in Marshfield, Wis. Their father Ernest lived with her in Marshfield where he died of a tumor. Ernest's wife, Minny died in 1906. Melba says that her father August had relatives living in the Neenah, Menasha area. [I could not find any Wagner relatives, but there are Holdens who lived in the Neenah area.] Ernest and Minny moved to Rib Lake around the time August was married [1906] and lived on the lake. August and Maude lived with them a short time until they bought a home across the lake.
