Nachrichten: Corporal John Ritger served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He fought at Gettisburg and died of wounds obtained in battle. His relatives applied for his Civil War Pension and documented relationship of them to John. This documentation contains post cards and letters written by John while at war. Copies of these are on file. These were obtained from the national archieves in Washington DC.. Many of the postcards were written as battles and gunfire were going on in the distant lands. John talks about the deaths around him and how he misses his family and home. His brother Andrew was also serving at the same time and died in Louisiana from fever during the war. His letters are also on file.
