Nachrichten: Listed in the 1900 Census, Washington State, Olympia, First Ward. "Wentzel Sr., his wife Aloisa, sons Wentzel Jr., Frank, Joseph and daughter, Louisa, moved to Kansas from Cato, Wisconsin, where they had farmed after their arrival in the US, and homesteaded farms near Lanham Kansas about 6 miles north of Hanover Kansas in 1876. The 1885 census shows Wentzel, Aloisa, Frank, Louisa and Joseph under one farm ownershipo of 320 acres valued at $6000.00 and Wentzel Jr., his wife, Anna and children Louisa and Anna and Barbara Weber under one listing of 240 acres valued at $6600.00. Not too much is known about their farm operations except that they built some very nice imporvements which included a Wisconsin type barn with a drive through hay loft. This being good corn country and from the buildings it is known that they handled a great deal of livestock. For some reason Wentzel Jr. decided to sell out and move to Olympia, Washington and he and his family spent the remainder of their life there. Frank bought out the Wentzel Jr. holdings. The other members of the family continued to live on the Lanham farms."In the 1900 census, Wentzel lists his occupation as "Saloonkeeper" and two young men board with the family. Their occupations are listed as "brewers".
