Jeffers Review 1931
Joe Rubey, Sr. died Tuesday at six o' clock in the evening at his home in Jeffers following an illness which has extended over a period of nearly two years. The cause of death was given as old age and other complications. He had been gradually failing in health for some time but was able to be up and around until just a few days before his death. Joe Rubey was born at Natacheten, Germany November 11, 1852 and died at Jeffers, Minnesota on August 11, 1931 at the age of 78 years and 9 months. He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Arbes and to this union thirteen children were born, seven of whom are living. Mr. Rubey came to this country when he was eighteen years of age and settled at Iberia near Sleepy Eye. He was engaged in business at Springfield for four years and two years before the town of Jeffers was started, he moved to a farm south-west of the present town site where he lived until 1906 when he moved to Jeffers where he has lived since. He was employed by the Northwestern railroad for eighteen years. He has been a familiar figure in Jeffers for a number of years and his passing takes another of our early pioneers. He is survived by one son, Joe of Jeffers; six daughters, Katie of Chicago; Mrs. Gus Erickson of Westport, MN; Clara (Mrs. Tom McShea) of Greenbush, MN; Rose of Souix Falls, SD; Mrs. Schunk of Albany, MN; Mrs. Isabelle Quiram of Jeffers; two brothers, George of Springfield and Tony of Sleepy Eye and a number of grandchildren and other relatives. His wife preceded him in death, passing away August 18, 1917. The funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o' clock. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery at Windom.
