Anton Rubey, 300 Pine Street resident for the past twenty-one years, was laid to rest this morning at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery. He had been hospitalized six weeks and passed away Monday at 3:00 am. Despite his 79 years and 7 months he remained in good health until April of this year. Once he began failing, his condition became gradually more complicated, with the infirmities of old age causing his death. A Solemn High Mass was read this morning at Ten at St. Mary's church. Deceased was born in Austria, February 22, 1863. At the age of eight years he came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wenzel Rubey <../wenzel.html>, to Brown County. They settled five miles southeast of Sleepy Eye (Stark township) which at that time was rolling prairie land and wilderness. His father cleared a place for the family and broke the first ground. The 253 acres farm has always remained in the Rubey family, at present it is occupied by Henry Rubey. When his father died in 1890, Anton took over management of the farm. Two years later he was joined in marriage to Mary Petsinger at St. Mary's church by Rev. Pax. They remained on the home place until 1921 when they retired from active farming and moved to town. During his many years in town he spent sometime each summer assisting with the harvest. Besides his wife and son Henry, a daughter, Mrs. Norbert Schroepfer (Agnes) of Sigel township survives. One son Leo passed on in 1911 when struck by lightning. During his years in Stark township, deceased was active in the life of the community. He served 21 years as treasure of that township and was a member of District No. 11 school board for 20 years. He has been a faithful member of St. Mary's church and of the Sleepy Eye Labor Society.
