TOD: Obituaries New Ulm Journal Saturday, May 14, 1942 Joseph Goblirsch, Rural Telephone Promoter, Dies Joseph J. Goblirsch, 70, pioneer, of Lafayette township and for 30 years a resident of Cottonwood township, died at the Goblirsch home at 1:30 a.m. today. He had been ill but two weeks.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be at the Catholic cemetery here.
Joseph J. Goblirsch was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Goblirsch, pioneer residents of Lafayette township, and was born April 10, 1872, and grew to manhood on the farm. He and Miss Mary Seifert, were married May 30, 1899. They first resided on a farm in Lafayette township and 30 years ago moved to the present farm home in Cottonwood township.
Mr. Goblirsch has been an outstanding civic-minded citizen and took an active interest in the development of the community. He became interested in the New Ulm Rural Telephone company years ago and its development into the rural districts. He was a director of this utility for a number of years and was reelected a director from Cottonwood town-ship at the recent annual meeting.
For many years Mr. Goblirsch was a member of the school board of District 3, Cottonwood township, and took an active interest of the welfare and progress of that rural school.
Mr. Goblirsch was a member of St. John's Court, C. O. F.
The widow together with the following children survive: Mrs. Casper (Veronica) Schluck, Oskalocsa, Iowa; Mrs. Herbert (Sophie) Ganske, Comfrey; Raymond Goblirsch, Sigel; Otto Goblirsch, Cottonwood; Mrs. Clarence (Hildegard) Hauser, Cottonwood; Miss Mildred Goblirsch, Minneapolis; Mrs. Emil (Helen) Zupfer, Milwaukee, Wis. There are 11 grandchildren.
Four brothers and one sister also survive: Adam Goblirsch, North German street, New Ulm; Charles Goblirsch, Minneapolis; Anton Goblirsch, North Franklin street, New Ulm; Miss Kate Goblirsch, North German street, New Ulm, and Andrew Goblirsch, Genola, Minn.
