He was a witness at the wedding of Franz Wettengel and Anna Luggart, which took place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton on October 27, 1869. The groom's parents were Wenzel and Elisabeth Wettengel.

On his declaration of intent to become a U.S. citizen, he gives his birthplace as "Aesch". This is a misspelling of "Esch" which refers to Dom-Esch in Kreis Euskirchen in the Rheinland near Cologne.
