Stricken with a cerebralhemmorage Mrs. Elizabeth A. Crouse, member of a pioneer Johnstownfamily, died unexpectedly at 10:30 o'clock last night at the home of herdaughter, Mrs. James K. Boyer of 1359 Franklin Street, with whom she wasconversing at the time. The victim would have been 91 years old next May. Mrs Crouse, said to have been enjoying good health in advancedyears, and Mrs. Boyer were discussing the condition of the lattersdaughter. A patient in the Spangler Hospital, when the stroke occured.Mrs. Boyer had just returned from the bedside of her daughter. Mrs. Crouse was born near the Old Cambria Furnace, belowCoopersdale, May 28, 1845, a daughter of George and Catherine Helsel,early Johnstown settlers. She married twice, her first husband, RobertSherman being killed in the Civil War. Her second husband , JacobCrouse, also a veteran of the Civil War died 30 years ago. Ms. Crouse was the mother of 16 children, 5 of whom are still livingas follows: Mrs. Gertrude Schlappich of McKeesport; Mrs. Lillie Fye ofThomas Avenue; Mrs. Jessie Brewer of Haynes Street; Mrs. JohnBurnheimer of Spring Street and Mrs. James Boyer at whose home she died.She also leaves 32 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 1 great greatgrandchild and 1 great great great grandchild, making a total of 5surviving generations. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoonat the Boyer home. Interment will be in Dunmire Cemetery, Elton. NOTE: In the 1860 Census, a Robert Sherman, age 17, laborer, was listedas living with the family. He later married Elizabeth Helsel and died inthe Civil War. He was her first husband NOTE: In the marriage listing it gives her first husband name as ThomasB. Sherman and in obit it list his name as Robert Sherman NOTE: Elizabeth is said to have had an interview with President A.Lincoln, about having her first husband's remains returned to JohnstownPA for reburial. when? where? result ? His body was removed to Union Cemetary in Johnstown ( probably atthe site where the Cambria County War Memorial now is located ) andlatter it was removed once again to the Soldiers Circle located inGrandview Cemetary. Her first and second husbands are buried two gravesapart.
