I am interested in the genealogyof the Merzenich surname. In the early 1800's, Elise Merzenich married Ferdinand Esaias Haentzschel. Their offspring included Carl GustavEsais Haentzschel, my great grand father. He was born in Cologne, Germany on 1 February 1848. He immigrated to the USA in about 1865. Thefamily lived in the Cologne area, and I am sure there were several additional children in that family. Does Elise Merzenich show up in anyof the genealogical research you have done? I am also seeing a CarlMerzenich in the baptismal record. He was either a grandfather or godfather. I would be interested in any information you have. Merzenich-archiv " site,and I did see the ancestors I am looking for in the listing. I'm notsure what more I can learn yet. But just seeing them listed is encouraging. I don't know German but there is "google translate". Also I havea German speaking neighbor. It looks like there are hundreds of Merzenich's listed. I know there is a town or settlement called Merzenich west of Cologne. So maybe we share some DNA, maybe we are cousins 100times removed? Friends for sure. I will let you know if I learn more.
