BIOGRAPHY: **Taken from "Our Family" compiled in 1981 by Carroll BAIRD (nee RUMPEL)** Karl Rumpel was born August 11, 1887 in the Province of Bukovina, Austria. He came to Canada as a child with his p
arents who took up a homestead four miles north and three miles east of Balgonie, Saskatchewan (then known as the District of Assiniboia, NWT). He worked with his father and brothers improving the hom
estead. He met Anna Schweitzer and on August 2, 1908 they were married at theEdenwold Baptist Church (the country church) by the Reverend Phalman. They farmed near Balgonie for a few years and eventua
lly took up a homestead about 12 miles of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan. They sold the homestead and bought the Bradley farm about five miles southeast from the homestead. There were eight children in the
family, four girls; Karolina, Flora, Norma and Gerdrut (she died at birth) and four boys; Berthold, Edward, John and Karl. The fall of 1919, they sold the farm and they moved to a farm four miles nor
th of Balgonie. That spring the flu epedemic was on and he got it.March 1st 1920 Karl Rumpel died and was buried at the Edenwold Baptist Church Cemetery, leaving a wife and seven children.
