Birth: Dec. 16, 1917 Death: Apr. 27, 2004 Ruben Epp, age 86, of Henderson, NE., died Tuesday, April 27, 2004 atHenderson. He was born December 16, 1917 in rural Henderson, NE., toGerhard and Katherina (Friesen) Epp. He was a longtime VoAg instructorhaving taught in Shelton, NE., from 1948 -1954, he then taught inHenderson from 1954 till his retirement in 1982. After his retirementhe was a part time substitute teacher for the next ten years. He was amember of Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Ruben completed hisBachelor of Science degree at the University of Nebraska a Lincoln,his Master's degree at Colorado State at Fort Collins, Co. Rubenserved in CPS in World War II from 6-26-1942 to 2-23-1946 and was amember of the Henderson Commercial Club, served on the Henderson ParkBoard, enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and was a veryactive volunteer in the Henderson Community and his church. He enjoyedcamping and Christmas trips to see his family and friends. A specialplace for him was the Aurora Youth Leadership Center where he servedas secretary/treasurer for many years. On July 12, 1945 he was marriedto Freda Huebert at Winnebago, WI. He is survived by his wife Freda of Henderson, one son Doran Ray Eppof Henderson, one daughter Rhonda Kay Epp of Hillsboro, KS. 7Grandchildren; Craig, Kiley and Kimberly Epp all of Lincoln, ScottNeufeld and Kevin Neufeld of McPherson, KS., and Laura Neufeld and AmyNeufeld of Hillsboro, KS. Also surviving is one brother Alfred and hiswife Vera Epp of Henderson and a sister Elizabeth Friesen also ofHenderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers AbelEpp and Roland Epp and one sister Esther Epp. Funeral services were Friday at the Bethesda Mennonite Church inHenderson with the Rev.'s Weldon Martens and George Kaufmanofficiating. Burial was in the Friesen Cemetery west of Henderson. Inlieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Mennonite CentralCommittee or to the Mennonite Church USA Peace and Justice Network.
