From: Kimberly Egan Notes: Robert McIlvaine is consideredtheancestorofthe McIlvaines who first settled in LancasterandFranklinCounties,Pennsylvania. His wife was Mary Duffield, anonlydaughter ofRobert(actually George) and elizabeth, who settledinSalisuryTownship,Lancaster Pennsylvania about 1730. Mary Duffield hadabrother,theReverend George Duffield, who was the minister in chargeoftheThirdPresbyterian Church in Philadelphia in 1784. He actedasChaplainofSessions of the continental Congress in that city, as wellasinYork,PA. The Reverend George Duffield died on February 2, 1790andisburied ithe aisle of the Presbyterian Church.

I Robert McIlvaine of Strasburg Township, Lancaster CoandProvinceofPennsylvania, being sick and in ??? butofperfect memory..but calltomind it is appointed for all men once to die,Ido hereby makeordainthis last will and testament in mannerformfollowing. That is tosay, Ido in the first place recommend my soul toGodwho gave it to me,and mybody to the dust, to be buried in adecentmanner, at thediscretion ofmy executors, nothing doubting ofaresurection from thedead at the lastday by the Power of the AlmightyGod.And with respect ofthe good thingsthat it has please God to Blessmewith. I do herebydispose of them inthe following manner. First it ismywish that myfuneral charges and allmy just debts, be dulydischarged.Secondly, Igive and bequeath unto mybeloved wife, Mary, thewhole of mystock ofhousehold furniture, sucharticles excepted, hereinafterwardsmentioned.The possessions and useof the house I now live in,togetherwith such ???The barn and stablesas she mayrequire,and our one third of the profits.hereafter arrivedfrom myplantation ofabout fifty acres, within lessthan two miles andremain untothe saidMary, during the term of hernatural life. In caseof hercontinuing inwidowhood, but in case sheshall change her state bymarryingagain, It ismy wish that she shallhave and I accordinglybestow?her onehundred pounds lawful money, of themoney that may arisefrom thesale ofmy plantation in York? County, to bepaid in oneyearaftermarriage, and be to her in lieu of ??? ofthe houseInow live in,and her ??? of the otherbuildings onthe plantation, alsofrom the otherabove mentioned if a courtof???, then it is my will and Ihereby orderthatmyplantation in York County, Tyrne? Township, be soldbymyexecutorwithin three years after my decease, and of themoneythatmayarise fromsaid sale, I do hereby bequeath one hundred fiftypounds tomydaughterElizabeth to be yielded? as soon as received orput tointerestforher use, and I do also give and bequeath unto mydaughter,Elizabeththeyoungest of my two mares, now two years old a sidesaddleand bridleonechest of drawers which now goes by her name, onefeatherbed andclothes,one cow and calf, six sheep. Then I give bequeathto mywellbeloveddaughter Mary, my other young mare now two years oldasidesaddle andbridle one chest of drawers which now called hers,onefeatherbed andclothes, one cow with calf, six sheep, and onehundredfiftypounds moneythat may arise from the sale of the plantationinYorkCounty as abovedirected to be paid her as soon as received orputtointerest for her use.Item: I will and bequeath to mywellbeloveddaughter Margaret, out of themoney that may arise from thesaleof theplantation in York County, thesum of two hundred fifty poundstobe paidout at interest for her own useand the whole paid her when sheisof ageor such time that her guardianmay think proper. Item: Iwillandbequeath to my well beloved son, RobertMcIlvaine, the sumoffourhundred pounds to be raised of the Plantation Inow live in,andtheabove mentioned fifty acres and to be paid out tointerest forhisusewithin the term of six years after my decease. Item: Igive tomywellbeloved son William McIlvaine, the sum of four hundredpoundstoberaised from this Plantation I now live on and of theotherfiftyacres,and to be paid out at interest for the his use withintenyearsafter mydecease. Item: It is also my will that mydaughters,Elizabeth,Mary,Margaret, and my sons Robert and William havefullprivilidge inthehouse with their mother, and maintenance fromtheplantation. I givetothe daughters until they change their statebymarrying, and thesonsuntil they come of full age. If they choose to,andalso thatRobert,William, and Margaret be taught reading, writing,andcypheringand theexpense to be defrayed by the Plantation, and alsoincase of mywellbeloved wife may not marry again, Igive??? one hundred pounds???toherin case of marriage to my two sons. Robertand William, tobeequallydivided between them, and paid out at interestfor them. Item:Iwill andbequeath to Elizabeth, George, John, and EdwardDuffield,thechildren ofmy well beloved Brother-in-Law, Rev GeorgeDuffield, thesumof fivepounds to be paid when they arrive at full age.Item: Ibequeaththeplantation I now live together with my other plantationoffifty acresasafore mentioned to my ??? Belovedsons,George and Andrew McIlvaine,to??? to beequallydivided between them, as ???mentionedsumbequeathedout of the same as their bequest??? ormolestation? theacresbequeathed???.
