Le Sueur News Herald June 25, 1924 August Ahlf, born December 7, 1853 at Isensee, Hannover, Germany. I-Es father passed away when he was yet at a tender age. This misfortune compelled him to make his own way in live. he came to America in the year 1872(73?) and settled in Le Sueur near his brother John Henry Ahlf He can be classed as an early settler, a builder of the state. He was united in holy wedlock in 1880 with Katherine Termath. Five children were born of this union of whom three survive the father. He at first worked in the furniture store and during the last thirty five years of his active life, he and Mr. Voobrecht were engaged in the contracting business as partners. Very few men are as conscientious about their work as he was. One might almost say, that he was too conscientious. he believed in giving his full attention to his work. During the last year or two, he felt this strength leaving him, but his one great ambition was to be busy. he believed with Saloma that work is the greatest pleasure a man can experience. Mr. Ahlf was precise and very exact in what he did. He was not satisfied with poor workmanship, but felt highly pleasured when is labors were a success. As a husband, a father, a friend and neighbor, he was exemplary. A loving husband and tender hearted father. His life has not been spent in vain. In memory he shall live on until we will all be reunited again around the throne of God. As a man, the deceased was humble and unassuming. never wanting to be more than just a plain, straightforward, honest, upright man, who loved his home, family and fellow man. Seventy years, six months, twelve days, the years of his life. He was taken away Thursday morning to join the innumerable hosts of those who have died in their faith in the living resurrected Christ. The departed always was devout in his faith and ever ready as a Icon's church to fulfill his obligations. the one who sleeps his last sleep passed away peacefully and his soul one may well hope rests in the arms of Jesus. The surviving ones are his grief stricken wife, his children, Mrs. R.W. Lloyd, Elmer Johann Ahlf of Worthington, Minnesota, Mrs. Ernest Nordstrom of La Crosse, Wisconsin, a half brother, Claus Stueven, one grandchild, Douglas Kentner Ahlf, two sons-in-law, other near relatives and acquaintances. Blessed are the dead, who die in the Lord. Church Records: #23, page Johann August Ahlf, father Johann Ahlf, mother Emma (Wetter) Ahlf, born July 20, 1880, baptized August 29, 1880.
