Thank you for your reply. I will look at your pages and see what dates I can supply for you. I have pictures and obits if you are interested. Of Claus Edward's family mostly. Since my grandmother, Olga Ahlf Dieterich, was his daughter. I do have some pictures of Emma (John's daughter) and her husband, Robert Grote. Obits from John and his wife aren't available (so far) as the papers were destroyed. Claus Edward came to the US in 1885 according to his obit. His parents were John Ahlf and Meta (Brauer). Attached is info I found on the web on Henry & Harry Ahlf. Which seems fairly accurate according to names my mother/aunt have given me. In case you haven't seen before. I couldn't establish who had posted this. I found it on www.rootsweb.com , Worldconnect by searching Harry Ahlf. My mother said both Henry and Harry's family came to visit them in the summer when it was hot in Chicago when she was a girl to my grandmother's house. Mary and Harry had a baby daugher which they had on a board due to an illness. I'm curious as to how you are related to the Ahlfs. Both Martha and Bertha, sisters of my grandmother have now died. Martha lived to be a 100 plus and Bertha into the nineties. I remember them very well. Have an newspaper article celebrating Martha Ahlf Knaack's 100th birthday. Please keep in touch. S ": I918 Name: Harold "Harry" T Ahlf Given Name: Harold "Harry" T Surname: Ahlf 1 Sex: M Birth: 17 Aug 1884 in West Iowa Twp., Cook Co. Illinois Christening: 1910 were living in Chicago City Death: 1962 1 Change Date: 11 Jul 2003 at 08:53 Note: 1930 in Chicago Dear Kent and Janet, This is the info that I have on Henry/Hinrich AHLF: Born between 1852-1855, depending on the 1880,1910,1920 census. Born in Hannover, To America in 1871 or 1872, depending on 1910/20 census. Naturalized in 1872. Father Claus Ahlf, born in Hannover, mother his first wife Maria Kroncke. In 1880 he was living on a street very near his half-brother Wilhelm AHLF in St. Louis, at #721 Franklin Street, worked at a "cigar and tobacco store", as did Wilhelm. At that time he couldn't read or write (in English, I presume.) He was not listed in the St. Louis city directory 1877,1879, so he may not have stayed long. In about 1883, when 27 years old, he married Martha Jane (German maiden name). She was born in Illinois in 1856-1858, was 52 in 1910, 66 in Jan 1920. So they may have met and married in Chicago, Illinois. Her father was born in Germany, and her mother in Illinois or Germany, depending on the census. Harold "Harry" T. AHLF was born 17 August 1884 in West Iowa Township, Cook County, IL. They had another child who was born before 1910 who died, maybe born before 1900. In 1910 they were living in Chicago City, west of Garfield Park, east of Oak Park, north of Cicero in Ward 34, ED 1460. renting at #4140 West Jackson Boulevard. Henry was an electrical goods agent, his son Harry was a stocks and bonds agent. 1920: They were living in a similar area, Ward 35, #4234 Jackson Boulevard. Henry was a solicitor in the electric company, Harold a stock broker. 1930: No parents listed. Harry living at the same house with his wife Mary W./N, renting at $75 (a month?). Harry was a securities broker and Mary a school teacher. Harry was a veteran of World War I. Mary was born in Illinois. They had no children in 1930. (From Kent Ahlf's list - he died 1962.) I do not have any information on what happened to Henry or Martha Jane AHLF after 1920. If either of you have any info to add, I would love it. I couldn't find them in 1900 census."
