From Berks Co. Historical Society Newspaper microfilms 1999 Reading Gazette and Democrat, 19 May 1860, Charles L.Iaeger Fatal Accident. – Mr. Charles L. Yaeger, coach-maker, of Hamburg, died on Thursday, the 10th inst., of injuries received in a fall from a wagon on the Monday previous. He had gone, in company with his little son, on business, to the house of Mr. Lawrence Rothermel, in Windsor township, a few miles from Hamburg, and on his return, took with him in the wagon several chickens, tied together. One of them happened to get loose, and Mr.Yaeger stood up to secure it again. He was hardly upon his feet, before the wagon ran against the stump of a tree, and threw him out backwards. He fell with his back against the sharp edge of the fore-wheel, injuring his spine so seriouslyas to result in his death. The accident happened a very short distance from Mr.Rothermel’s house, to which Mr. Yaeger was carried, and medical assistance immediately summoned, but without avail. He died on Thursday following. Mr. Yaeger was 39 years old. He was a son of Rev. G. F. I. Yaeger, and leaves a widow with five orphan children. His funeral took place last Monday in the New Jerusalem Church, in Greenwich township.
