UNION - Kathy Trout, 7, Bristol Rt. 3, was dead on arrival at Elkhart General Hospital shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1963, when she was taken there after being struck by a car on U.S. 12 near Union, Mich. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clare Trout. The driver of the car was Mrs. Vicki Bonine, also of Bristol Rt. 1. The girl had gone to check a mailbox across the highway from her home, about one-fourth mile east of Union (all Union residents have Bristol, Ind. rural route postal addresses). As she was going to return to her home on the north side of the highway, she started across the road and into the path of the Bonine car, according to Cass County sheriff's officials. Officers said that Mrs. Bonine told them that Kathy darted into her car's path and that she was unable to stop in time. The accident is under investigation. Kathy was born September 18, 1956, in Honolulu, Hawaii, where her father was serving in the Armed Forces. Surviving besides her parents are a brother, Scott, at home; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Wilma Trout, of Union; a maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lena Bostian, of Elkhart; a great-grandfather, Palmer Boyer, of Union; and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Joseph Bostian, also of Union. Private services will be conducted Friday at Zion Lutheran Church northwest of Bristol, with the Rev. Donald Dow, pastor, officiating.
