ELKHART -- Friends of William "Bill" R. Madlem may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Sister Nora Frost of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Cremation will follow. Mr. Madlem, 63, of 56846 Pearl Ann Drive, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 4, 2005) in Elkhart General Hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1942, in Elkhart to Lyman R. and Glendora (Sellers) Madlem. He married Barbara "Bobbie" J. Rose on March 19, 1966, in Elkhart. She survives along with one daughter, Jodi (Bill) Heerschop of Goshen; two sons, Bill (Jyl) Madlem of Greenwood and Toby (Mandy) Madlem of Goshen; one brother, Jon Madlem of Gainesville, Fla.; one sister, Loretta (Bob) Donahue of St. Augustine, Fla.; and six grandchildren. Mr. Madlem was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Mobile Construction Battalion Eight. He was a woodworker at Frey Furniture and The Office Barn, both in Elkhart. He enjoyed woodworking and making furniture for his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Memorials may be given to either the American Diabetes Association or the American Lung Association. Elkhart Truth
