Carrie, daughter of Samuel and Sarah E. Bailie Ellis, was born southof Little Sioux, Iowa February 17, 1861. She lived near and in LittleSioux most of her lifeuntil failing health compelled her to give upher home. She spent 2 1/2 years atthe Gillette Rest Home in MissouriValley until she became seriously ill and wastaken to a CouncilBluffshospital on May 28th, where she remained until July 2 whenshewas returned to the Gillette Home where she passed away late Sundayafternoon,July 19, 1953. She was the last surviving member of theSamuel Ellis family,a sister and five brothers preceding her indeath. The lateC. B. Ellis, a brother, was statistician on the IowaCommerce Commission for 30 years.
She leaves anumber of nieces and nephews, including Mrs. C. R.Whiteof Missouri Valley and Clyde L. Huff of Pierre, SD and a host offriends.
Services were held at the Hennessey Van Cleave Funeral Home inMissouri Valley at 2:30PM Wednesday with Rev. Kendall Bauer ofMondamin officiating. Mrs. Kendall Bauer was soloist and Mrs. Harry W.Adams was organist. Burial was in the Soldier Valley Cemetery. Thecasket bearers:Jack White, Michael Murray, Francis Clark, StanleyCaldwell, Gordon Cross,EdwinBenetti and Edgar Baldwin.
