Note from Les Propes.
I have no proof that Nancy's last name is Hagan, after years of searching in and around Monroe Co. KY. I have not found any family's with the last name of Heflin. We know that Nancy's and John D's oldest son's middle name is Hagan (Barney Hagan Propes). It was common at that time to name a child's middle name after a wife's maiden name, as in John Dovel Propes & Elizabeth Dovel Propes. ElizabethDovel is the wife of John Propes married May 20, 1800. in Rockingham Co, VA.
There were a number of Hagan family's living in and around the Propes clan of early Monroe Co, and the Hagan's are still yet to this day living in Monroe Co, KY. So it is my thinking that Nancy, wifeof John D Propes, is a Hagan by birth..

Note on the email from Morgan Heflin by Les Propes; Preston Miller, myself and others believed Hagan was Nancy's last name. Again there is no proof of Nancy's name being Hagan just common sense and speculation.[ancestors of nancy hagan.FTW]

As with most of the children I assign to Red Arthur Hagan, the
relationship here is based on circumstantial evidence. First she has
children named Lydia Propes, Barney Hagan Propes and Arthur R Propes.
This certainly ties her to one of the Arthur Hagans. Black Art already
has a daughter Nancy whose relation to Black Art is solidly documented.
Moreover, in the 1830 Monroe Co census, John and Nancy Propes are living
next door to Red Arthur Hagan. Thus she is almost certainly a daughter
of Red Arthur and Lydia Hagan.[red arts descendents.FTW]

Datenbank
