Greville Texidor was born in England, travelled extensively until her first marriage to a Spaniard in South America. She then lived in Spain, during the period of the Civil War. In 1941 she emigrated to New Zealand with her second husband, WernerDroescher. Her work met with considerable success in New Zealand. In 1948 she and her husband and daughter left New Zealand for Australia and then in 1953 travelled to Europe. Greville remained in Europe till shortly before her death. She died in Australia in 1964.

Greville Texidor was born to William Arthur Foster and Editha Greville Prideaux in 1902. Her father committed suicide in 1920 due to a scandal. Her mother was an artist. Greville grew up around many famous artists, writers... DH Lawrence etc. She joined a chorus line as a dancer and travelled around. Finding herself travelling around with a german who did contortion acts... She danced at New York Winter Garden for 2 years... and then moved down to Buenos Aires. In 1929 she married the "Spaniard" ... Manuel Maria Texidor i Catasus... my grandfather... who was in Buenos Aires to start up a cork factory... (he later became Manuel Jose Texidor when he took UK citizenship whilst married to my grandmother). In 1929 Cristina Texidor was born (and is still alive). They all went back to Barcelona/Tossa in 1933 where things were getting political and messy. In 1935 she divorced Manuel and had a 'comrade in arms' marriage (not a legal one) with Werner Otto Droescher (Google him too). She and Werner managed to escape and found their way back to England where they were kept in a concentration camp (Werner was German) ... Greville's mother managed to get them to New Zealand with help from the Quakers. So they all went out to New Zealand. As with all immigrants they were housed on farms in the countryside. It was during this time that Greville (with Werner and Cristina) met Frank Sargeson... I think the family, with their possible wealth) helped to support Frank. Grevilla used to entertain them... they had a small shack... i went there last year... it's all overgrown with big homes now... Cristina grew up .. and fell in love with Keith Patterson, whose paintings were dotted around Frank's house... he also played the guitar... Cristina and Keith moved back to Spain... Cristina now lives in Barcelona - I am visiting her in the nextfew days... Keith has passed away. Greville did move back to Spain in the 60s after splitting with Werner. She wasn't easy to live with. Nor her sister Kate Mangan (married to John Joseph Sherry Mangan (google him too - a Time journalist and life long friend of Manuel (the brothers-in-laws - Foster Widows)... Manuel married twice more .. 2 children in each marriage... There is a box of letters and manuscripts in Auckland Uni Library that I have been to and read through them... 5 from my grandfather... There are also 60+ letters from Greville to Sherry Mangan ... in Harvard... (i only got the Manuel - Sherry letters from there)... ah yes .. Greville also had a daughter with Werner, Rosamund... who is living in Sydney... hope that helps... Oliver Slay (i Texidor)
