Edward & Elizabeth (Fox) Chapman are believed to have come from England to America with her mother, Margaret (Clark) Fox and sister, Hannah Fox who married Thomas Loomis to live on the homestead of Elizabeth's uncle (brother of Margaret), Henry Clark, who had removed to Hadley in 1661. He bequeathed this property to Margaret & Elizabeth. On June 19, 1677 less than a month after the death of her husband, Edward Chapman, in the the Great Swamp Fight, Elizabeth conveyed to the overseer's of her husband's estate to be held in trust for their children when they came of age. She also deeded the real estate inherited from her uncle to her living children and any that might be born in the future to be divided equally among them. She received 05-05-07 for her husband's service in the Indian War. In turn, she contributed 10 shillings and 6 pence to "ye poor in wanths in other collonyes" on June 11, 1676. She married (2) Samuel Cross on July 12, 1677 in Windsor, Conn. Although the date & place of her death are not known, it is believed that she predeceased her second husband who died on November 5, 1707, and she is probably buried in Windsor.
