Jacob Eymannmit seinen Soehnen) Vater: Christian Eymann(1701);5.
Jacob may have lived in Donnersburg, Germany from 1730 to his 1749 migration to the US.
Jacob first arrived in Philadelphia on Sept. 9, 1749 on the "St. Andrews" from Alsace, Switzerland, and he was noted in Philadelphia Township and County tax rolls of that year. By 1760 he appeared in Bethel Township, Lancaster, PA. Before that, he seemed to have probably lived in what wasthen called Chester County for a while first, but he seems to have migrated to Upper Paxtang -- an outlying area up the Susquehanna River. Jacob was listed in Upper Paxtang, Lancaster, PA records in1769, 1770, 1772, 1777, 1779, 1780, 1782, and 1783. In 1777 Jacob Eyman of Upper Paxtang's taxes show 70 acres, 2 horses, 3 cows, 4 sheep, and other items (including a still or mill).
Jacob took land in partnership with Jacob Raeif in Upper Paxtang. The warrant suggests that interest had been paid on that 100 acres along Clark's Creek since 1770, and so it may be presumed thatthis might have been the residence of the Eymans. The land was not surveyed, nor the land grant formalized until August of 1787, and it seems that the land was sold sometime between then and 1801 to aJacob Hutts. This land was adjacent to the land of the famous William Clark, who was Secretary of the Treasury of the US.
Henry Peden, in "Revolutionary Patriots of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania 1775-1783" suggests that Jacob Eyman was present at the battles of Princeton and Trenton. He also suggests that Jacob was with Captain Murray's Company when he lost his pouch and hornat the reduction of Fort Washington on November 16, 1776.
William Engle, in "History of Dauphin and Lebanon Counties" suggests: "This company first went into service in November orDecember of 1775, and was present at the battles of Trenton and Princeton. The members of the company nearly all resided in what was then Upper Paxtang township, or in the section of country from thepresent town of Dauphin extending to Halifax. Beyond and around the latter locality was Captain Read's company."
A return of Captain James Murray's company of Associators of the Fourth Battalion of Lancaster County, commanded by James Burd, March 13, 1776:
Eyeman, Christopher, Eyeman, Jacob, and Eyeman, Jacob (obviously, Sr. and Jr.)
Jacob Eyman and hissons volunteered in 1775, quite early and before strong pressures of muster were generated in 1776. The Eymans were early and seem to have seen the worst. There is some evidence that they avoided some subsequent calls to duty, with both Jacob and Christian paying fines.
There was a settlement of Catherine's estate in about 1793 in Dauphin Co., PA. Jacob (Jr. or Sr.?) is namedin it. "Catharine Emen letters of administration granted April 3, 1793 to Jacob Emen, Dauphin Co., Pa."
