!ORIGIN: I have made a number of phone calls in connection with the origin of the SCHLATTER family in Kirchstetten. Among them are the following:
1. Mathilde ROTHFELDER (Tengen), 0049-77 36 319. She has done some research in the area but was unable to help me, except that she recommended I contact Dr. Franz GOETZ in Singen. She has heard the story told below about the minister, who claimed that the oldest of the parish records had been removed while he was in a concentration camp.
2. Dr. Franz GOETZ (Singen). He is the "Kreisarchivar", 0049-77 31 49 330.
He was unable to help me but confirmed the story about the incarceration of Pfarrer Weiler and another Pfarrer from Singen, with the name of RUH.
3. Heinz CALDART, who wrote a book about the history or the parish of Kirchstetten-Wiechs. He was unsure, if the parish records existed for the time period I am interested in. His phone number is 0049-77 74 64 78.
He thought that all the parish records were with Pfarrer OTT in Buesslingen.
The story I was told is that a minister, who served at the church in Wiechs during World War II, was imprisoned by the Nazis in Dachau (Concentration Camp), because he had assisted a jewish woman (or family) in their escape into Switzerland. He apparently survived his imprisonment but has since died. In addition, Pfarrer RUH of Singen was also imprisioned, since he had referred the jewish lady to Pfarrer WEILER in Wiechs, who would help her. According to the story, it was Pfarrer WEILER who claimed that some of the parish records were removed during the time he was imprisoned, but nobody was able to confirm the story.
Kirchstetten, in the past, was a separate town, adjacent to Wiechs. It was in Kirchstetten where the church was. Today, Kirchstetten and Wiechs have grown together. The old church burned down and only a small cemetery is left and a new chapel which was built at the spot where the old church once stood.
