Notes for this person
Birth: Oct. 26, 1893, Austria Death: May, 1965, Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington, USA Anton Buhr was born in the lovely village of Tattenitz, Austria-Hungary which is now Tatenice, Czech Republic. His father was born Anton Puhr; but the family name came to be Buhr. His mother was Kathrina Wolf Buhr. Anton's uncle, Joseph Buhr came to the United States in the late 1800's. He worked in a restaurant in Chicago, first as a house boy, thenas a cook, then he learned to wait tables in an elegant fashion. Still a citizen of Austria, he was required to serve his country in the military. Joseph changed his name from Puhr to Buhr, hoping to escapedetection. And it worked. Eventually Joseph had his own restaurant & sent for his nephew, Anton who, of necessity, changed his name to Buhr. Joseph & Anton relocated to Tacoma.
