Accident on Quincy injures man, destroys guardrail The Morning Sun -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PITTSBURG A one-car crash sent one man to a Joplin, Mo., hospitalearly Wednesday morning. Brandon Engelken, 17, was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 west on Quincywest of U.S. Highway 69 when he entered the north ditch and struck aconcrete guardrail on a bridge at that location. Engelken suffered possible head, neck, back and internal injuries as aresult of the crash at 4:25 a.m. He was unconscious when authoritiesarrived at the scene. Engelken was taken to Mt. Carmel Medical Centerand later flown by Eagle Med to St. Johns Hospital in Joplin. Engelkens truck was heavily damaged, and the guard rail wasdestroyed, according to a sheriffs report. He was born August 30, 1990 in Houston, Texas and had been a residentof Pittsburg since 2001, moving from Garden City, Kansas. Brandon wascurrently a senior at Pittsburg High School. Brandon had been employed by the Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburgfor the past three years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and theCrestwood Country Club both in Pittsburg; he was an avid golfer and amember of both the Kansas Junior Golf Association and the UnitedStates Golf Association. Survivors include his parents Amy and Perrie Marrs of Pittsburg;maternal grandparents Walter Erick and Jane Engelken of Houston,Texas; maternal great grandmother Mary Finney of Dodge City, KS;paternal grandparents Irvin and Genevieve Marrs of Montezuma, KS. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Barbara AnnFinney; maternal great grandfather Thomas Clinton Finney and maternalgrandparents Louis and Ella Engelken. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Monday at Our Lady of LourdesCatholic Church, with Father Thomas Stroot, as celebrant. Burial willbe in Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg. The parish rosary will berecited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S.Broadway in Pittsburg, KS. The family will receive their friendsafter the rosary service at the funeral home.
