1. Obituary and Biography Joseph died in 1925. Grant County Press, 16 April 1925: The body of Joseph Harman who died at Petersburg, Florida the secondday of April, 1925, arrived in Elkins on the night train Monday, April6th (or 8th). Funerals services were conducted at the familyresidence, 208 Elm street, Tuesday at 2 o'clock p.m. Interment inMaplewood immediately following. F. E. Runner in charge. The deceased was in his 83rd year having been born and brought up inPendleton county, W. Va., where he resided with his family thegreatest portion of his early life being postmaster and retailmerchant at the mouth of Seneca, Pendleton County 41(?) years. LeavingPendleton County, he moved to Davis, Tucker county, W. Va. in 1891 andbecame engaged in the lumber industry for the period of four years,after which he resided a short while in Pendleton as well asPetersburg, Grant County, W. Va. becoming a resident of Elkins in191?, where he has resided until death, with the exceptions, ofspending the past winter in St. Petersburg, Florida, in which place hedied. At one time in his early life he possessed and held vast interest inland lying in Pendleton county, and was engaged in stock and cattleraising. He served in the Civil War in 1860 in what was known as theHome Guard and was several times wounded, carrying a musket ballreceived in that war in his body to the grave. "Grandpa" Harman as he was famaliarly known is survived by thefollowing near relatives, his widow whom was Mahala Mouse, he marriedin the year 1865, and the following children residing in Elkins, Mrs.D. K. Teter, Mrs. George Henry, Mrs. J. Scallion, Mrs. Emery Jordanand Charles R. Harman, Preston, of St. Petersburg, Folorida, Floyd ofParsons, W. Va.; and W. C. of Pansy, W. Va.
