1. Biography Dr. Geo W. Lupfer was a physician in Markelville after 1881. ...H. H.Hain writes (page 824) in The History of Perry County, Pennsylvania"George W. Lupfer, M. D., was a son of Jesse K. and Sarah (Ricedorf)Lupfer, born at Markelville, November 15, 1856. He was the eldest of afamily of twelve children. He attended local schools until fifteen,then the New Bloomfield Academy, and three terms at Millersville. . .He worked with his father at carpentry to secure funds for hiseducation. He read medicine with Dr. J. D. Shull...graduated fromCollege of Physians and Surgeons at Baltimore in 1881. . . Afterassisting a physician perform an operation at Petersburg, HuntingtonCounty, November 2, 1905, he started home in his carriage. About amile and a half east of that town he was observed in a recliningposition, with his hat off and the horse driverless. Kind handsconveyed him into a neighboring farmhouse, and in a few minutes heexpired."
