1. Obituary OBITUARY: Mrs. J.E. Hunter Hannah Jane Hunter closed her eyes in eternal sleep and her soultookits flight at 11 o'clock Monday night, August 13, 1945, the endcomingat Asbury Hospital in Salina, Kansas. To her were given 77years, tenmonths and 25 days of earthly life. She was born September 18, 1867 at Mannsville, Pennsylvania. Inthespring of 1880 she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. JacobB.Burkepile to Mitchell County, Kansas. On October 24, 1884 she was united in marriage to James E.Hunter, whosurvives her after nearly 61 years of weddedcompanionship. This union was blessed with 15 children. Arthur preceded her indeath,leaving the following to survive the memory of a kind andlovingmother: Edith, Ruth and Bertha of the home; Will and Anna,Barnard;Neva, Vesper; Hardin, Harlan and Wayne, Lincoln; Roy, Jewel,Kansas;Cora and Elsie, Beverly; Lawrence, Alton, Kansas; andFlorence, ElCerrito, Calif. The family tree has been extended toinclude 29grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Hunter is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sarah K.Caspar,Ellensburg, Wash.; and Mrs. Ella Mears, Enterprise, Kansas. At an early age she united with the Presbyterian church andadheredclosely to its teachings. As wife, mother, friend andneighbor sheperformed her duties fully and goes to a rich reward,leaving with allwho knew her, happiness that she lived, and muchsorrow at her parting. The funeral services were conducted in the home and at theFirstPresbyterian Church, Lincoln, Kansas, Thursday afternoon, August16,by her last pastor at the Harmony Presbyterian Church, the Rev.W.Clyde Wolfe of Sylvan Grove. She was laid to rest in the familylotin the Minneapolis, Kansas cemetery. Hunter Thursdayafternoonat 3 o'clock from the Lincoln Presbyterian church, the Rev.W. ClydeWolfe of Sylvan Grove, officiating. Mrs. Hunter died late Monday evening at Asbury hospital in Salina,herdeath resulting from a broken hip sustained at her home northwestofLincoln about a month ago. She had been in frail health forseveralyears. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter have been among the county's best knowncitizens.They had been married more than 60 years, celebrating the60thanniversary of their marriage last fall. Besides her husband,Mrs.Hunter leaves a large number of children and grandchildren tomourntheir loss. The body will be laid to rest in the Minneapolis cemetery.
