Obituary Notes Joachim (Joe) Theodore Heinrich Koehn was born in Menkendorf,Mecklenberg, Germany on November 8, 1867. He was the youngest of tenchildren born to Johann and Anna Steinfatt Koehn. He was baptized onNovember 17, 1867, received his early Christian instruction in Germanyand was confirmed in the Lutheran Church on Palm Sunday 1882. At the age of 15 he came to the United States of America, settling inVictor, Iowa. He became a member of the St. John’s Lutherancongregation located south of Victor, and worked as a farmhand in thisvicinity. Mr. Koehn retired from farming in the fall of 1936. In the spring of1937 he moved to Victor, making his home with his son Louis, and withhis other children. Mr. Koehn’s health began to fail him in his latter years. For thelast three months of his life he lived with his daughter Hulda atPaullina, Iowa, where he passed away on December 2, 1953. At the time of his death his children lived as follows: Walter inCedar Rapids; Arthur and Louis in Victor; Martin in Cedar Rapids;Arnold in Marengo; Everett in Luzerne; Frank in southeast Victor;Alfred in Marengo; Hulda Koehn Eschenbacher in Paullina; and ClaraKoehn Wooley in San Mateo, California. He had twenty-fourgrandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His mother and three sisters died in Germany. His father, two sistersand three brothers died in the United States. His wife, Maria,preceded him in death on January 11, 1929. Mr. Koehn died at 86 yearsand 24 days.
