Obituary Deife, Lucy, "Lucy Deife, daughter of Gottlieb Hemmerling and his wifeLouise, nee Jeske, was born on 12 June, 1888 in Alt Elft, Bessarabia,Russia. She was baptised as a child, and in her youth she received theappropriate religious education followed by confirmation. She marriedWilhelm Deife on 6 September 1906. Their marriage was blessed with 13children, 3 of whom preceeded their mother in death. Lucy's husbandpassed away in 1958. Lucy came to America in 1902, and lived her lifeon a farm north of Odessa. She was a loyal member of the UnitedCongregational Church in Odessa and served God in many ways as long asshe was physically able. She was a true child of God, and lived herlife as she believed. At her death, she was 72 years, 10 months and 7days old. Surviving Lucy are 10 of her children: Emil Deife ofSpangle, Martha Gieselman and Elsie Stumph, both of Walla Walla,Arthur, John and Robert Deife, all of Odessa, Harold Deife of Albany,Oregon, Ruby Pfeifer of Wilson Creek, Lorene Heimbigner of Ritzville,and Walter Deife in the service; 3 brothers: Christ and EmanuelHemmerling, both of Odessa, and Fred Hemmerling of Spokane; 2 sisters:Lena Raugust and Lydia Frieske, both of Spokane; 30 grandchildren andmany friends and acquaintances. May those who mourn find comfort inthe Lord. Odessa, Washington H. G. Pfeiff, Pastor."
