Carl Wilhelm VAN DAWEN machte sich auf der Hees, der alten Grenze zwischen Lank und Latum selbständig. Er baute dort eine Gastwirtschaft (heute "Alt Lank") und betrieb eine Ziegelei, eine Dachziegelei und einen Kohlenhandel. Er war auch Ortsvorsteher und Beigeordneter. Carl Wilhelm wurde aufgrund seiner Verdienste zum einzigen Ehrenbürger der Kommune Lank-Latum ernannt und derVan-Dawen-Weg wurde ihm zu Ehren benannt. Carl Wilhelm war zweimal verheitatet und liegt auf dem Friedhof Lank I begraben.
