Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, IL: Larry C. Jacober, age66., died Sunday, February 18, 2007, at his residence in Carbondale,IL. He was born July 2, 1940, in Highland, IL., the son of Alfred andAlberta (Hiller) Jacober. In September 1961, he married Judy Schneider, who survives. Mr. Jacober graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School in 1958 andattended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL, receiving hisBachelor of Arts degree in 1962 and Masters of Science degree in 1965.He began his career teaching math at Lincoln Jr. High School,Carbondale, IL from 1962-1965. In 1965 the Board of Education namedhim principal of Parrish Elementary School. After five years at thispost, he became principal of Lincoln Jr. High. He served ten years asjunior high principal from 1970-1980 and then once again returned tohis old love of teaching math at Lincoln Jr. High from 1980-1987. In1987 he was selected as superintendent of the Carbondale ElementarySchool District No. 95 where he served until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of local, state and national teachers and schooladministrators associations including National Education Assoc.,Illinois Education Assoc., American Association of SchoolAdministrators, Illinois Junior High School Assoc., Illinois PrincipalAssoc., and the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Lifemember of the SIU Alumni Association. Member of SIU Alumni Assoc.Educational Council of 100. He served as President of the Jackson County SIU Alumni Association in1970 and was the National President of the SIU Alumni Association in1974. In retirement he spent many enjoyable volunteer hours at theCarbondale Public Library. Survivors include Mother-Alberta G. Jacober, nee Hiller of Highland,Ill., Wife-Judy Jacober, nee Schneider of Carbondale, Ill.,Daughter-Jill (Jay) Bruce of Marion, Ill., Daughter-Jennifer Barnettof Geneva, Ill., Brother-Ron (Lois) Jacober of Ballwin, Mo.,Sister-Lynn (Ron) Petruska of Manchester, Mo., Sister-In-Law-Betty A.Jacober of Highland, Ill. He was preceeded in death by Father-Alfred Jacober, Brother-James A."Jim" Jacober (dod 12/6/03). The Graveside service is being handled by Spengel-Boulanger FuneralHome in Highland, Ill. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February21, 2007, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, IL. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 22, 2007, atSt. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Carbondale, IL., with FatherRobert Flannery and Father Victor Silva officiating. Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2007,at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, Ill. Memorial contributions may be made to Epilepsy Foundation of America,Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Carbondale Public Library.
