Notes for this person

Passport #17 is for Johannes HUFT, from Woessingen/Karlsruhe, Baden, with wife, Christina and 5 children--Johann, Elisabeth, Wilhelm, Christina & Salomea. The passport says "through Berlin to Bergdorf/Od," with the passport apparently issued at Markt-Steir(e) [location ?] 19.3.1809-and stamped at Grodno on 26.3.1809 [may be Grodzisk, SW of Warsaw?], Radom on 28.3.1809 [south of Warsaw], Lubin on 31.3.1809 [east of Radom] & Wodawa [location ?] on 3.4.1809. There is NO mention in Stumpp of Poland, per se, as a "source" for this family. Johannes Huft is found in the 1816 census in Bergdorf RL:48, as JOHANN HUFT, age 56. His son, Johannes, is found in B RL:2, as JOHANN HAUF [sic] age 26, with his wife, Dorothea, nee Haller. I have researched the HUFT family extensively in Ober & Unter Woessingen. Johannes Huft was married on 18 Feb 1783, in Unter Woessingen to Christina Maennle. On this marriage record is a note--Nach Polen--gone to Poland. I have found birth records for this couple in the Woessingen church records for five children: Johann Jacob [b/d 1784]; Johannes [Johann on Passport, b 16 Feb 1785, d abt 1849 Bergdorf]; Christian [b/d 1791]; Wilhelm Christoph [b 1796, d 1811 Bergdorf]; Christine [b 1797, d ?--alive in 1816, Bergdorf]. The birth records of Johannes [1785] and Christine [1797] both have the note-- Nach Polen. Johannes [Sr] Huft's passport lists two other children -- Elisabeth [NOT in 1816 Bergdorf census list, probably died before 1812] and Salomea. Salomea's 1843 death record, as wife of Adam Becker [Kassel RL:49 & 165], indicates she was born by WARSAW, about Nov 1802. So, based on the above "facts," I conclude that the Huft family left Woessingen for Poland, probably about 1798-1801. They were settled somewhere near Warsaw by late 1802, when Salomea was born. Then in 1809, they left for Bergdorf. Tom Stangl
