Immigrated 1873, settled in Tyndall SD until 1887 Gottfried G. Werre obit On Sunday afternoon, 29 April, departed after a short illness, Father Gottfried G. Werre, at his home in Eureka at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 21 days. The deceased was born 10 May 1867 in KleinBergdorf, south Russia. As a child of Christian parents he was brought soon after birth to the Lord in baptism. He came with his parents to America and first lived in Tyndall, SD, where he spent his youth. He was instructed in the holy word in the Reformed Church and confirmed by Pastor Hoffer. About 1888 he came to Eureka for his working life industrious and loyal was he to his work and the dear God richly rewarded him. On 13 December 1891 he married Friedericka Bertsch. The marriage was blessed with eight children, of whom two passed into Eternity before the father. Father Were was a dutiful, attentive and treasured citizen of our city and served as alderman and city official and cared much for the building and order of our city. He was a true and constant member of St. Paul©ﾙus Church, and God©ﾙus service. He participated for the last time in Communion on Good Friday, strengthening his belief. ℗ﾅ His parents, who preceded him in Eternity, were Gottfried and Katherina Wittmayer Werre. He leaves behind six sons: Edwin G. and Dr. H. H. Werre, Fargo, ND; Theodor Werre, Mt. (?) Indiana; (torn page) Eugen Werre in Eureka, daughter Mrs. Elsie Spitzer, ND; two brothers, John and Fred Werre, WA; and two sisters: Katharina Kusler, Greenway, SD; and Rose Mindt, Wishek, ND; two half-sisters: Mrs. Lena Papendick and Mrs. Eva Heilmann, Eureka; and these descendants: 19 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren, also many friends and relatives. The mourners have our sympathy.
