He died in 1634, and was s. byhis eldest son, * THOMAS CLIFTON, esq. of Westby, who wedded Anne, daughter andco-heir of Sir Cuthbert Halsall, of Halsall and Clifton, and thus thelatter estate became again the possession of the Cliftons. Of thismarriage there was issue, viz. ____________________ The manor of Lytham was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 asLidun.[1] In the 12th century it was given to the Benedictine monks ofDurham Priory for the foundation of a monastic cell—Lytham Priory.Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s, LythamPriory came into the possession of Sir Richard Molyneux.
