Charles and Joseph enlisted in the Royal Veterans together and on discharge, with their families, settled in Launceston. On arrival in Tasmania in 1826 Charles was stationed at George Town where his son Henry was born. At 14 years of age, Charles began his military career as a private in the 50th Foot West Kent Queen\'92s Own Regiment. He fought in the Napoleonic War and on the 24th February 1814 during the Battle of Boyance in France he was shot in the right leg. He was discharged and returned to Derby where he married Elizabeth Wilde. Charles made a brief foray to NSW in April 1847 but returned to Launceston by September 1848. Was this to visit his wifes sister Pheobe Tivey nee Wild who had emigrated to NSW. Daughter Ellen moved temporarily to Warrnambool, Victoria with her husband where they had a daughter before returning to Tasmania. Ellen husband John Winrow is believed to have been her 1st cousin (son of Elizabeths sister Mary Wild who married Stephen Winrow) John Winrow his brother Gregory and his father Stephen were all transported to the Colonies as convicts) Elizabeth Ann moved to the Victorian Goldfields with her husband. After his death she remarried and is buried in the Footscray Cemetery, Victoria. It is believed her 1st husband may have been one of the miners who participated ands died at the Eureka Stockade (this is being investigated.) Thomas and Caroline Martha remained in Tasmania and their descendents can still be found there. Henry had a daughter but never married. He committed suicide in Launceston in 1899 by placing a needle at the back of his neck and throwing himself off the bed backwards. At the time of his death he was living with his nephew.. In years to come a descendant of Charles Bennett marries a descendent of another Royal Veteran, John Thompson. \par Wife Elizabeth is recorded as Mary on Charles\'92s discharge papers. \par \par A Charles Bennett who arrived on the \'93John Barry\'94 is recorded as traveling to Victoria, was this Charles Snr or Jnr. (We believe this was Charles jnr)}
