First came to Boston, Massachusetts, in 1633 (or 1653), as master of the ship "William and Francis." He was from Wales and came to Boston again in 1640 with his wife Jane____ and four children. He was "taken into consideration as a resident" of Boston on October 26, 1640, and was admitted an inhabitant on January 25, 1641. He was admitted to the First Church on April 4, 1641, and became a freeman on June 2, 1642. He became a member of the "Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company" in 1653. He was a vintner (wine merchant), had a good property, and died August 25, 1661. His wife Jane died January 12, 1658. Two of his children were born in Boston - Jane, March 16, 1641, and Dorcas, December 5, 1642, but Dorcas died later the same month. Evan Thomas married a second time, Alice (maiden name unknown) and she survived him. Another version: Evan was born about 1615 based on him being about 25 when arriving in New England by 1641. On September 1, 1640, "Evan Thomas, having a wife & four children is allotted twenty bushels of corn at harvest....." On October 26, 1640, Evan Thomas was under consideration to be a townsman at Boston. On April 4, 1641, "Evan Thomas a Welshman" was admitted to Boston Church.[1] Evan Thomas of Wales emigrated to New England by January 1641. He was a vintner in Boston.[2] His first wife was Jane. She died before 14 October 1659, when he declared his intention to marry Alice Kirtland, widow of Philip Kirtland.
