Arrived in US in 1851 with Carl Brockmann, and is a brother. Age listed was 23 occupation Engineer
Ludwig Brockmann, age 23, a Native of Germany, (no landing date), Signed his Declaration on Dec. 8th, 1851, Pg in Bk 1, 925. Dubuque County, IA
Ludwig must have returned to Germany, at least for a visit. He is listed as a Sponsor for the Christening of his brother, Heinrich's daughter, Maria Louise Caroline Elisabeth Brockmann b 06/05/1857 and christened, 07/02/1857. He is listed in the church records for this baptism as Ludwig Brockmann, Ingenieur (Engineer) in North America. Christenings usually take place a few days after a childs birth. Obviously, this one was delayed in order for Ludwig to make the trip from the US back to Mecklenburg for the Christening. So far, I have not been able to find other records of Ludwig in America.
6/5/00- Joyce Sousa found some election results from Clayton County, Iowa and in November 1856, Lewis Brockman, democrat ran for County Surveyor and lost to the Republican candidate. Also the village of Clayton Center was surveyed in April, 1856 by Lewis Brockman for Fred Hartman, as proprietor. This is probably our Ludwig Brockmann. The occupation and time frame fit.
Ludwig must have stayed in Germany or returned there again as evidenced by the marriage in 1872 in Wismar when he was 44.
