MRS. RICHARD LEMKE DIES AT EFFINGHAM
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lemke, 86, widow of the late Richard Lemke, whose death at the age of 93 occurred last December 11, died at 2:45 PM Monday at her home in Effingham.
Funeral services will be heal at St. Ann's Church in Effingham at 10 AM Thursday and the rosary will be recited at the Stutz & Shifflet funeral home there at 8:45 PM Wednesday. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Before her marriage Mrs. Lemke was Mary Elizabeth Brockman and she was born at Fort Madison, Iowa, February 12, 1861. On June 7, 1881 she was married to Mr. Lemke at St. Stephen's Church, Lawrence, Nebraska and in 1901 the family moved to Kansas. For many years they lived near Valley Falls and 26 Years ago bought the home in Effingham where they spent the rest of their lives.
Mrs. Lemke had been seriously ill for five years. When her Husband became fatally ill their daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Kramer of Winchester took care of Mr. and Mrs. Lemke until his death, and since then another daughter, Mrs. John Regan of Atchison, has been caring for her mother. Until she became ill, Mrs. Lemke was active in St,. Ann's Church and Altear Society.
Surviving are five of her eight (other sources list nine) children, three having died in infancy. The survivors are George Lemke and Mrs. Joe Noll, Effingham; Martin Lemke, 'Atchison, Mrs. Kramer and Mrs. Regan. Mr. and Mrs. Lemke also reared a niece from the age of one year who is now Mrs. Charles Schriek of California. There are 23 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
