1. Moved from Sanger, TX to Sayre, OK to better the health of his wife.
This was in 1901. They moved by covered wagon and homesteaded a farm
about 3 miles north of Sayre. The family lived in a sod house (dugout)
until their house was constructed.
2. Marc had operated a drug store in Sanger, TX and he opened the first
pharmacy, in a tent, in Sayre. He also became a real estate agent in Sayre.
3. Built a home on the north edge of Sayre in 1920; 706 North Fourth St.
4. Copied from the 18 Oct 1989 issue of the Sayer newspaper, article sent
by Mina Belle Brockman:
"BROCKMAN CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY
Sayre pioneer Mina Belle Brockman celetrated her 91st birthday Sunday,
Oct. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m with open house and a come and go reception in
her home in Sayre.
Miss Brockman came to Sayre in a covered wagon at the age of [2] with
her father, William De Marcus Brockman of Georgia, and her mother, Mary
"Mollie" Howard Brockman of Austin, Texas, from Denton County, Texas.
Her father was a pharmacist. They resided with relatives in a sod house
until her father obtained lumber from Weatherford to build a home.
Mina Belle attended the Sayre schools. She retired as assistant
manager of the Federal Land Bank of Wichita, Kan., in Sayre and is a
charter member and past president of the Sayre Business and Professional
Woman's club. She is past president of the GFWC-OK Sayre Sorosis study
club, charter member and past president and longtime treasurer of the
Mildred Lee chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Honorary
Oklahoma Division President of the UDC and member of the First
Presbyterian church treasurer until the church disbanded in 1989.
Her brother Ervin graduated from Sayre High School in 1910 at the age
of 15 and attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He was the
first volunteer from Beckham County in the Air Force in World War I in
1918."
5. In 1920 William was a wagon driver for a Dray Company and in 1930
he was a farmer. Mollie, in 1930, worked as a book keeper for a Super
Service Station.
