Widow of August Brackman Died

Monday Morning at 2:15 O'Clock,

Aged 85 Years and 18 Days

__________________

Another kind old Christian mother, Mrs. Sophia Brackman, widow of the late August Brackman, was called to the great and heavenly home; she died on Monday morning, January 26, 1831 at 2:15 o'clock, at the age of 85 years and 18 days at the home of her son, Mr. F. H. Brackman in Concordia. Mother Brackman was one of our pioneer women, of the old honest, true, faithful and loveable charcters that win admiration for them, hence she was loved and esteemed by all who knew her - a true wife, loving mother and a good neighbor.

The funeral was held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the house of mourning in this city where Rev. Brust, her pastor conducted a brief service. The body was then taken to the St. Paul's Lutheran church of which the departed had been a life-long member, where Rev. F. Brust preached in the German language and Prof. L. Spitz of St. Paul's colege delivered a srmon in the English language. The choir sang songs suitable for the sad occasion. After a last view had been taken of the features of the dear departed, the body was taken to the Lutheran cemetery where it was laid to its last resting place to await the day of resurrection.

Pallbearers were: Erwin Flandermeyer, Alfred Brackman, Raymond Brackman, Adolph Kirchhoff, Carl Eyl and Ormond Yessen.

Mrs. Sophia Brackman, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Oetting, was born on January 8, 1846, near Concordia. Here she was baptized in the Christian faith and afterwards confirmed when a young girl by the Rev. J. F. Biltz. On January 8, 1864, she was married to Mr. August Brackman, who preceded her in death about four years ago. The happy union was blessed with eight children, three of whom preceded their parents in death. She leaves to mourn her death her children: Anna, Mrs. John H Rodekohr of Battle Creek, Neb., Mrs. Emilie Flandermeyer, Gust W. Brackman, Fred H. Brackman, all of Concordia, and Edw. J. Brackman, Sedalia; and one adopted daughter, Miss Emelia Brockhoff of Kansas City, Mo., 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; one brother, William Oetting, of Concordia, one sister, Mrs. Doris Wehrs of Emma and many other relatives and friends.

The mourners have our sympathy in their bereavement of a loving mother and grandmother, sister and friend, who loved her friends, her church and her Saviour. Grandmother Brackman was a member of the Lutehran Ladies' Aid No. 1 for many years. She has been feebly and sickly for some time and was ready when the call came.

"Blessed hope that in Jesus is given

In the sorrow to cheer and sustain,

That soon in the mansions of Heaven,

We shall meet with our loved ones again."
