John Jacob Bauer, a life-long farmer from rural Hampton, died March 5, 2007, at his home. He was 91 years old.
He was born June 10, 1915, in Miesville, the son of Jacob and Clara (Brochman) Bauer.
He is survived by a sister, Viola (Ernest) Werner of Vermillion; a brother, Bernard (Mary Lou) Bauer of Hampton; sisters-in-law, Alvina Bauer and Juanita Bauer, both of Hastings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Arnold, Sylvester and Herbert Bauer.
A picture of John was on the cover of “Life on the Farm,” by Dean A. Riggott. The book is a pictorial of life in the rural Midwest.
A funeral Mass was held March 8, 2007, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Vermillion, with Father Joseph Arackal officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
The pallbearers were Gene Bauer, Alvin Bauer, Charles Werner, Roger Bauer, Shirl Daly, Marlene Werner, Lori Sacchetti, Michael Bauer, John Bauer, Paul Bauer, Joseph Bauer and Mel Werner.
The Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, Hastings, was in charge of the arrangements..
