Stephen Ridlen, was born in Pepperelborough, Massachusetts, (now Saco, York County, Maine); the eldest child of Abraham Ridlen and Patience Tibbetts.
He was taken by his parents to Ohio around 1800, crossing the Allegheny Mountains while on the way from New England into Ohio. They settled around Clermont County, Ohio, where they carried on farming for many years.
On December 27, 1813, he was united in marriage to Ann Bellville, in Campbell County, Kentucky, with whom he is buried beside. To this union, 8 known children were born: Cynthia Ann Ridlen, Lydia M. Ridlen, John Stephen Ridlen, Ruth Ridlen, Abraham Ridlen, James Bellville Ridlen, Stephen T. Ridlen, and Talbut/Talbott Ridlen.
Stephen, along with several of his brothers, served in the War of 1812 from Ohio.
Sometime shortly after 1820, they had moved to Dearborn County, Indiana. It was also while on this trip West that the spelling of the name Redlon changed to Ridlen.
He moved his family to Jasper County, Illinois sometime around 1850, where he farmed. Land records there show that he purchased two tracts of 80 acres of land on 08/23/1851. It is here that he died at the age of 75 years 1 month 3 days.
