1. In 1850 he was a student in Anderson co., SC and before the Civil
War he was a merchant in Spartanburg, SC.
2. He was a company captain on 14 Aug 1861 in Perrin's Brigade,
13th S.C. Infantry Regiment, CSA, and the name of this company
was also known as the "Brockman Guards." On 19 Jun 1862 he
was promoted to the rank of major and then on 6 Jan1863 his rank
was that of lieutenant colonel. On 13 Aug 1863 he was commis-
sioned as colonel.
3. He was first wounded during the first battle of Manassas on 29 Aug
1862 and then on 12 May 1864, at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court-
house, he was wounded again (arm and head wounds) and died 8
Jun 1864 in Hospital No. 4 in Richmond, VA.
