John P. Fitschen, 88, of Janesville, died at Mercy Hospital on Sunday, January 18, 2009, following a brief illness. John was born on June 12, 1920, in Hedendorf, Germany, the son of Johannes and Anna (Ropers) Fitschen. He married Anna Marie Tobaben on December 27, 1947. They came to the United States in 1957 and settled in the Elkhorn Wisconsin area, where John worked for 20 years for Mann Brothers Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator. A resident of the Elkhorn-Janesville area since coming to this country, John was a member of Operating Engineers Local #139. Mr. Fitschen is survived by his wife, Anna Marie; and one brother, Helmut (Lorraine) Fitschen; all of Janesville. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Meta Fitschen; as well as three children in infancy. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville, with Rev. Edward D. Paape officiating. Following cremation, entombment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Thursday until the time of services. Arrangements are by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
