Hubert and Elizabeth came to the United States with their six children. They travelled from Harve on the Ship Oglethorpe and arrived in New York City on July 24, 1835. Also travelling with them was Marguerite Schveige, Elizabeth's mother. They settled in the parish of St. Cecelias, Sheldon, New York, where Hubert was one of the first trusteesof the church.

According to the Peabody Museum in Salem Massachusetts, theOglethorpe was a 361 ton vessel 107 x 27.6 x 13.7 built in Boston by Samuel Hart. She had two decks, three masts and a figurehead. Her owners were listed as Charles Jayne of New York, Oliver Sturgis and Benjamin Burroughs of Savannah. A photo of a painting of the Oglethorpe was obtained from the Peabody Museum and is in thepossession of the author.

With respect to the manes of towns, some of them may be duplicate names, others not accurate in the spelling. For instance, on the baptismal record of Joanna, written in long-hand in Latin and with a mixed script, the initial letter ould be aC instead of a T in Toernich. I took this because I had found the town Tarnich in another place. Also on that record it states " in the district of Arlon". I believer all of the towns are in that district. Another town mentioned is Svernig or Lounig.

I suspect a similar inaccuracy in dates. On the record, Joanna's birthdate is stated "septima 9-bris" 1825, which I take to be Nov Y, In another place her birthdate is given as Nov 5, 1827. Tombstone has Nov 1, 1825.

Amandus never came to the U.S. but all except one of his living children came during the early 1860's. Nicholas Y. married Barbara Nicolai and their first child Amandus II was born at Offen Dec 4, 1855. He is the father of Fr. Norbert and Sr. Generosa. Mary, his seventh child, was born April 19, 1869 in the U.S. and is the mother of me and Sr. Jose marie, Amandus" daughter, Marie, born Jan 14, 1822, married Michael Koch and lived and died at Platen, Luxemburg.

It is presumption, but a likely one, that Mary Alarding was from the vicinity of Hachy and that Innocent settled there when they married. There is another family fo Goerges in the U. Sl who are the decendants of three brothers who came to the U.S. from Alsace-Lorraine about 1850. the brothers names were Al[honse, Alfred and Francis which are quite different thatn those we find in our lineage but we suspect a connection with Innocent. This family knows nothing of their back-ground.
