Joseph Lindsey, Sr, who committed suicide last Saturday in Bennington by hanging himself, was a resident of Darien, who had gone to Bennington to visit his son, Edward Lindsey, on the evening before he took his life.
Despondency, due to impaired health, is given as the case of the deed. Mr. Lindsey went to the barn of his son's farm directly after dinner and hanged himself with a rope from the rafters. His body was not discovered until 3 o'clock. Corner Martin of Attica took charge of the case.
Mr. Lindsey was 69 years old. He was born in Germany, but his parents brought him to this country when he was two years old. He retired from active life two years ago and had since lived at Darien, moving there from Bennington. He had built a newhouse in Darien into which he was to move this week.
Besides his wife and son Edward, Mr. Lindsey is survived by two other sons, Fred and Joseph, Jr, and a daughter Mrs. Frank Garigen, all of Darien. The funeral and burial took place at Bennington Center.
